Did you know Cleveland is a leader in holistic medical-legal partnerships? The Legal Aid Society of Cleveland helped create the first medical-legal partnership with The MetroHealth System in Ohio nearly two decades ago, and today there is an embedded Legal Aid attorney who works collaboratively on-site at various MetroHealth, St. Vincent Charity Medical Center and University Hospitals locations. Legal Aid attorneys and medical provides collaborate together to solve legal issues that are barriers to health. Medical-legal partnerships integrate the unique expertise of lawyers into health care settings to help clinicians, case managers, and social workers address structural problems at the root of so many health inequities.
