CHAMPS Group Purchasing is pleased to announce the promotion of Maria Summers to senior director. This move within the organization reflects the enhanced leadership role Summers is taking in the long-term strategic plan of the group purchasing organization (GPO).

Under her leadership as director since 2021, CHAMPS GPO has accumulated numerous achievements including an astounding 20,000+ member locations, 100 supplier contracts, the implementation of a new member enrollment team to support new business growth strategies, and new partnerships with Greater Cleveland Partnership’s Council of Smaller Enterprises, Team NEO and more.

“Maria has demonstrated tremendous dedication and talent in advancing CHAMPS Group Purchasing and we are looking forward to her innovate ways and leadership approach in taking the GPO team to the next tier of success” said Mario Franco, executive vice president and chief operating officer for The Center for Health Affairs and CHAMPS.

During her 12-year tenure with CHAMPS, Summers has developed a deep expertise in the group purchasing business and in customer and supplier needs while playing a pivotal role in helping member organizations reach their goals. Summers' commitment to and knowledge of customer service have allowed her to constantly think of new, efficient ways to deliver superior service, increase membership value and live up to the GPO's role as supply chain specialists.

“I am honored and excited to continue on this incredible journey with CHAMPS,” said Summers. “Focusing my sight on the future, I’m eager to grow the GPO in membership, value, partnerships and contracts while leading my team to ensure member satisfaction day in and day out. I’ve worn many hats over the years within GPO, but this is by far my favorite.”

Joining CHAMPS GPO in 2011 to handle administrative affairs, Summers quickly advanced. In 2013, she was named an account manager in client services, a role that saw her providing service to members across the continuum of care. Summers was elevated to national account manager in 2015 and then named senior manager of client services 2020, before assuming her role as director of GPO in 2021.
